Magician SP Guide: What to Add at Every Level, 1–70
Not sure where your skill points go? This guide says what to add at every level from 2 to 70, in two parts: 1st job, levels 1–30 and 2nd job, levels 30–70. Looking for where to hunt? See the Magician training guide (1–30) or Training Spots by Level. What each skill does is on its page and in the Introduction to Magic skill book.

1st job: levels 1–30
Jump to Magic Claw plan Energy Bolt plan Safety plan Where each plan ends
SP (skill points) are what you spend to raise your skills. Player guides say you get 3 SP for each level after you become a Magician (NiaMeowDB, MapleClassic Wiki), plus 1 for advancing at level 10 (Henesys.gg). That makes 61 SP by level 30. The six 1st-job skills can hold 105 levels between them, so you can’t max them all before 2nd job.
The plans below are from NiaMeowDB’s Magician guide, updated October 28, 2026. They’re one guide’s plans, and others split their points differently, as compared further down.
Levels 2–10: Beginner skills
NiaMeowDB says a Beginner gets 1 SP per level, 9 in all by level 10. That’s exactly enough to max Three Snails, Recovery and Nimble Feet, which stop at level 3 each. The order is up to you: NiaMeowDB starts with Recovery, and Henesys.gg starts with Three Snails.
Pick your attack: Magic Claw or Energy Bolt
You only need one of these maxed. At the same skill level they have the same total Basic Attack, so the choice comes down to the rest:
| At skill level 20 | Magic Claw | Energy Bolt |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Attack | 65, twice | 130, once |
| MP per cast | 20 | 16 |
| Range | 300 | 350 |
| SP to get there | 21 (it needs Energy Bolt 1 first) | 20 |
Energy Bolt costs less MP at every skill level. Player guides report that Magic Claw’s hits reach through walls and platforms, while slopes and platforms can block Energy Bolt, and a blocked bolt still uses your MP (NiaMeowDB, MS-Classic).
NiaMeowDB suggests Magic Claw if you’re new to the game, and Energy Bolt if you’re more experienced or saving mesos.
Then follow that plan below. Each time you reach a level, add the points shown. The level 10 row is the 1 point for advancing, and the number in brackets is the skill’s level after you add the points.

Safety plan: levels 24–30
Want more protection? NiaMeowDB’s Safety plan follows the Energy Bolt plan through level 23, then raises Magic Guard ahead of Magic Armor:
| Your level | Add |
|---|---|
| 24 | Magic Guard +2 (5), Magic Armor +1 (3) |
| 25 | Magic Guard +2 (7), Magic Armor +1 (4) |

Where each plan ends at level 30
| Skill | Magic Claw | Energy Bolt | Safety |
|---|---|---|---|
| Energy Bolt | 1 | 20 | 20 |
| Magic Claw | 20 | 0 | 0 |
| Improved MP Recovery | 15 | 15 | 15 |
| Max MP Increase | 2 | 3 | 3 |
| Magic Guard | 3 | 3 | 15 |
| Magic Armor | 20 | 20 | 8 |
Why this order
- Your attack comes first. Every guide here finishes its attack at level 17.
- Improved MP Recovery comes next. Its natural recovery is listed as 1% of Max MP every 10 seconds at every skill level, so later points raise the MP you get from items, from +10% up to +25%. NiaMeowDB takes it early to make training cheaper.
- NiaMeowDB takes Magic Guard 1 at level 21 for King Slime. That’s the boss of the Kerning City Party Quest, which opens at level 21 (Grand Launch Release Notes). Magic Guard 1 moves 30% of a hit to your MP.
- Magic Guard 3 unlocks Magic Armor. Magic Guard stays on until you press its key again. NiaMeowDB stops at level 3 (36% of a hit) because MP costs more to refill than HP. For the same reason, it says to keep Magic Guard off while you train and turn it on for bosses.
- Magic Armor fills the middle levels. Using it temporarily raises Weapon Def. and Magic Def., from +40 for 300 sec at level 1 to +120 for 600 sec at level 20.
- Max MP Increase can wait. The first point gives +10%, and each point after that adds about 1%, up to +25% at level 15. NiaMeowDB says taking it later still reaches the same final Max MP.
How other player guides split their points
Both of these also spend 61 SP, starting with Energy Bolt 1 at level 10:
- Henesys.gg: Magic Claw 20, Magic Guard 15, Max MP Increase 15 and Improved MP Recovery 10, with no Magic Armor by level 70. It calls Magic Guard “the magician’s real defence”.
- MS-Classic: Energy Bolt 20, Magic Armor 20, Max MP Increase 15, Magic Guard 3 and Improved MP Recovery 3. It lists this as a community plan built to keep potion spending low.
Before you advance at level 30
Spend all your 1st-job SP first. Player guides agree on that, but not on whether 2nd-job SP can go back into 1st-job skills. NiaMeowDB and MS-Classic say no, MapleClassic Wiki (whose page predates the launch) says yes, and Henesys.gg’s builds appear to assume yes. Don’t count on it.
Your choices stay unless you reset them. The SP Reset Scroll costs 7,000 NX in the Cash Shop and resets all your skills except Beginner skills (Nexon). NiaMeowDB says every plan above works through 2nd job as it is. Its 2nd-job guides end on the Magic Claw plan’s split, so you’d only need the scroll to move to that split from another plan.
Your 1st-job plan doesn’t depend on your 2nd job. NiaMeowDB says any of its plans works for all three 2nd jobs.
Level 30 has two steps. Add the 3 points from your plan’s level 30 row above, then advance. The 1 SP you get for advancing is the first row of your 2nd-job plan in Part 2.
After you advance: Fire/Poison Wizard · Ice/Lightning Wizard · Cleric. The questline steps are in the Job Advancement guide.
2nd job: levels 30–70
This part has a plan for every level from 30 to 70 for each 2nd job. In each table the number in brackets is the skill’s level after you add that row’s points. If your skills differ from a table, find the nearest “Where you should be” row for your level and carry on from there. For where to hunt at these levels, see Training Spots by Level.
What all three branches share
Player guides say you get 1 SP for advancing at level 30 and 3 for every level after that (NiaMeowDB, Henesys.gg). That makes 121 SP by level 70. Each branch has six skills that hold 140 SP between them, so no plan can take everything and every plan on this page is a choice.
- Keep your 1st-job attack for a while. NiaMeowDB says to keep using Energy Bolt or Magic Claw as your main attack until your new attack reaches about skill level 21–24, around level 37–39, on neutral monsters, which have no element weakness or resistance. Against a monster weak to your new element, it says the new attack is better sooner, around level 35–37. Resistant monsters take longer: its Fire/Poison page says Fire Boar needs “Fire Arrow 30 before it beats Energy Bolt”, and its Ice/Lightning page says ice- or lightning-resistant monsters cut the matching spell’s damage. Monster elements in the Magician training guide lists which monsters are weak to what.
- Prerequisites. Meditation needs MP Eater 3. Slow needs Teleport 5. Invincible needs Heal 5, and Bless needs Invincible 5.
- Teleport 1 costs 55 MP a cast. It costs 37 at level 10 and 15 at level 20, and each branch has its own Teleport: Fire/Poison, Ice/Lightning and Cleric. NiaMeowDB says to use the first point for platforms and emergencies.
- MP Eater absorbs only once every 5 seconds, and nothing from a monster with 0 MP. At level 1 it has a 30% success rate to absorb 30% of the monster’s Max MP, and at level 20 a 50% success rate to absorb 50%.
- Slow gets its first point at level 70 in the Wizard plans here, except the Ice/Lightning kiting build below.
- Two attack spells (Wizards). Each Wizard has a single-target spell (Fire Arrow, Cold Beam) and a spell that hits up to six monsters for less damage each (Poison Breath, Thunder Bolt). NiaMeowDB takes the single-target spell first because it works on every map, and says to swap them if you reliably hit 3 or more monsters per cast.
NiaMeowDB’s Wizard plans say they are “based off of a realistic lv 70” build by one player, Grummash, and its Cleric guide uses “Sample level 70 Cleric build by Grummash” and bases its solo build on his guide. Read its Wizard plans and its Cleric solo build as one player’s order. Where a guide lists only level ranges, its “Where you should be” numbers count 1 SP at level 30 and 3 for each level after, in that guide’s order, with leftover points going to its next skill.

If you play differently
NiaMeowDB offers three swaps:
- You hit 3 or more monsters a cast: take Poison Breath before Fire Arrow, by swapping the level 31–40 and 41–50 rows.
- You mostly fight one monster at a time: take MP Eater 3 at level 41 and max Meditation before Poison Breath.
- Platforms matter to you: raise Teleport after Fire Arrow 30.
How other guides differ
Henesys.gg puts the level 30 point into Fire Arrow, not Teleport. It takes MP Eater 3 at 40–41 and Meditation 20 by 48, then Teleport 20 by 54, and leaves Poison Breath for last, at 55–64. That matches NiaMeowDB’s “one monster at a time” swap only in part: both take MP Eater and Meditation early, but Henesys.gg also maxes Teleport before Poison Breath and skips Teleport at 30. Both plans max Fire Arrow first, by level 40.
Poison Breath's Basic Attack went from 50–80 to 60–90 in the 29 October update. Some of the guides named here still list the old numbers.

- Platforms matter to you: raise Teleport after the first attack spell is maxed.
How other guides differ
mapleclassic.guide says its breakpoints are no longer accurate and that its “outdated builds will still be up for now”. It takes Teleport at 30, Cold Beam 30 by 41, Meditation 20 by 48, Teleport 20 by 54 and Thunder Bolt last, at 55–64. Henesys.gg’s order is the same, with Cold Beam at level 30. Most plans max Cold Beam first. They also have Meditation maxed by about level 48, as does NiaMeowDB’s one-monster swap; its default plan reaches it at 58.
Ducky Duck’s guide goes the other way: Thunder Bolt first, maxed at 40, and Cold Beam at 49–58. Its page says it is based on “final COT2 video scripts” (Nexon’s second closed test), and it lists Thunder Bolt at “70 base damage”, the value before the update. Its kiting build keeps Teleport at 5 and puts 16 points into Slow.
Thunder Bolt's Basic Attack went from 40–70 to 50–80 in the 29 October update. Some of the guides named here still list the old numbers.

At level 30 add Heal +1. Then pick the party or solo build below.
Both builds are NiaMeowDB’s; pick by how you play. It says the party build goes for Bless 16, so nearby party members take 13% less damage, and the solo build for Invincible 20, so you take 20% less touch damage. In both, Heal comes up to 5 first, because Invincible needs it.

How other guides differ
Every plan on this page puts the level 30 point into Heal, and in NiaMeowDB’s two builds and Henesys.gg’s plan Holy Arrow is the main spell from 31 to about 41. They differ on the rest:
- Heal before Holy Arrow: Henesys.gg takes Heal 5 at 32 and Holy Arrow 30 by 42. Grummash’s guide also takes Heal 5 at 32: his main build puts levels 32–34 into Heal 5, Invincible 5 and Bless 1, uses Energy Bolt until 37, and resets at 38 to get Holy Arrow 21. His optional no-reset route instead says to “save all your SP starting now until level 38” and then spend it on Holy Arrow 21. NiaMeowDB’s solo build, which reaches Holy Arrow 30 at 41, keeps Energy Bolt or Magic Claw until then.
- How much Invincible and Bless: NiaMeowDB’s party build has Invincible 5 and Bless 16 by 49, and its solo build has Invincible 20 by 49. Henesys.gg takes Bless 20 by 57, and Grummash’s guide by 60.
- MP Eater early or late: Henesys.gg maxes MP Eater by 48 and NiaMeowDB’s solo build by 55, while its party build keeps it at 1 until 58.
- Teleport: Grummash’s guide leaves it at 1; in a reply to a commenter he calls that “an emergency damage mitigation”. NiaMeowDB’s solo build raises Teleport at 56–62 and its party build at 64–70, and Henesys.gg takes its first point at 70.
This guide covers levels up to 70.
